Art on Loan — art for viewing in public places
The Winfield Arts and Humanities Council maintains a collection of original artwork. The purpose of the collection is to support local and regional artists by purchasing artwork in a variety of styles and media, to continue to build and maintain a quality collection, and to make it available to members of the community by placing pieces in public spaces for viewing.

Included in the collection of original art work are paintings in oil, acrylic, and watercolor, as well as drawings and prints (etchings, lithographs, and block prints), posters, pottery, sculpture, photographs, and folk art. Most of the posters are reproductions. All pieces are available for loan for a period of 6 months or 1 year.

Art on Loan is available to businesses, medical facilities, educational settings, and any space accessible to the public.

Scholarships & Grants

*Special Opportunity Grant
Funded by the Ruth Ann Yeary Scholarship                             DEADLINE:  November 15. 2007

A grant for organizations that provide educational or cultural arts opportunities for youth.. Only projects that take place in the geographic area served by Winfield Arts and Humanities will be funded. Organizations may apply once a year. An organization must skip one year if a grant was received the previous year. Projects considered for funding must enhance education through the arts. A minimum of $50 may be requested, and must be an amount relevant to the scope and the goal of the project. A one to one match (cash or in-kind) is required.

-  The deadline to submit an application is November 15

-  Grants will be awarded by January 10

-  Projects must take place between January 10 and December 20 of the award year.

-  A final report is required and is due 30 days after the completion of the project.

Annual $500 Scholarship                                                                      DEADLINE:  March 30. 2008

The scholarship, in the amount of $500, is made available for a resident of the geographical area served by the Winfield Arts and Humanities Council. Applicant must intend to enroll as a first year, full-time college student, intend to major in the study of visual arts or writing, and have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0, complete an application questionnaire, and submit examples of art or written work. The committee may request an interview of the applicant. Money is awarded to the recipient upon proof of enrollment.

Annual $500 Scholarship                                                                      DEADLINE:  March 30, 2008

The scholarship, in the amount of $500, is made available for a resident of the geographical area served by the Winfield Arts and Humanities Council. Applicant must intend to enroll as a first year, full-time college student, intend to major in the study of music, drama,  or dance, have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0, complete an application questionnaire, and submit examples of music or video  tape. The committee may request an interview of the applicant. Money is awarded to the recipient upon proof of enrollment.

Applicant must intend to enroll as a first year, full-time college student, intend to major in the study of visual arts  and have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 complete an application questionnaire, and submit examples of art . The committee may request an interview of the applicant. Money is awarded to the recipient upon proof of enrollment.

Need Based Scholarships
Scholarships for children's classes and workshops are available through the Winfield Arts and Humanities Council scholarship program. Some activities, such as events co-sponsored with other groups, trips, and one-day special events may be exempt. WAHC scholarships fund 50% of a class fee and requires the parent/guardian to pay the remaining 50%. Scholarships are limited to two classes per child. Scholarship information submitted to the WAHC office remains confidential.

Scholarships are need-based and determined by the local school district's guidelines to establish eligibility for free or reduced-price lunches.

The Council welcomes contributions to WAHC scholarship fund. To make a donation, mail your check to WAHC, 700 Gary St, Ste A & B, Winfield, KS 67156 denoted "scholarships" or specified as such with a memo.

Classes and Workshops

In collaboration with the Winfield Recreation Commission, WAHC publishes activity catalogs four times a year, fall, winter, spring, and summer. After the catalog is released, a 2-3 week enrollment period takes place allowing patrons to register for activities. Classes for adults include drawing, painting, pottery, quilting, crafts, photography, porcelain dolls, and decorative painting.

Two annual workshops promote various styles and techniques of decorative painting (rosemaling, tole, folk, dalorna, etc.) funded by the Emily Caton Williams Memorial Endowment. The series brings in nationally recognized decorative painters, such as Charles Johnson, Anne Emerson, Barbara Cully, and Gretchen Cagle to teach the workshops.

Children's classes include painting, crafts, dollmaking, harmonica, choir, drama, band, cooking, stitchery, clay, sculpture, printmaking, origami, cartooning, drawing, writing, preschool art, and much more. Summer enrollment exceeds 800 and includes students of all experience levels. Students with special needs are encouraged to enroll.

Special Accommodations
Winfield Arts & Humanities Council will make reasonable accommodation for special needs upon advance request. All activities take place in accessible facilities. The Council welcomes students requiring personal care attendants to enroll in any class or activity.

Referrals and Resources

WAHC serves as a clearinghouse of information and resources to area cultural arts organizations. The Council also partners with many community entities and agencies to provide expanded programs and services.

Patrons may access WAHC's resource files:

• state and national cultural arts agencies
• artists/groups available in various disciplines
• lists of local painters, musicians, writers, jurors, etc.

Teachers and others may check out:

• art books
• fine art reproductions
• original artwork for exhibition

Arts in Education

The Winfield Arts and Humanities Council sponsors an extremely successful Arts In Education program in collaboration with USD 465. The program places professional artists in educational settings in both long and short-term residencies in visual arts, literature, dance, music, folk art, and drama. Artists work directly with students and faculty to augment existing curriculum and provide enrichment.

The Council also provides programming through live theater performances, art education materials, teacher resources, art books, videos, and fine art reproductions for check out.

The program serves public schools, private schools, pre-schools, and colleges. It is funded by the Winfield Arts and Humanities Council, the Kansas Arts Commission, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Winfield Recreation Commission, USD #465, the City of Winfield, and local businesses and patrons.
